I’m happiest when I’m outside. Rain or shine, hot or cold, the outdoors give me vitality and strength. Even more important is being outside in nature. Here, life slows down and you have an opportunity to absorb elements of the world that haven’t changed in millennia.
Mountains have a special place in my heart for this very reason. They haven’t really changed since they were carved by natural forces of yesteryear. It’s always an opportunity to feel small, insignificant, and with this comes a reset. All of those problems simply vanish as you realise how infinitesimal your life, your worries and your whole existence really are. This isn’t a negative realisation but an empowering one.
In nature sounds are limited to bird song, the wind in the trees or simply silence. An audio cleansing that’s far reaching.
In nature the air is fresh, I gulp it down like a soothing balm. The scents of pine, cut grass, seaweed, even horse manure. A lung full feels like a corner turned, an embrace from whatever created this wonderful world.
In nature the wind and rain attempt to dishevel us, to hamper our progress. It stings our face
In nature you begin to question. It gives you time to think, to question, to discover. What’s really important? Who is really important? When can I do this next?
I never regret time spent outside. Whole days flash by in an instant but we’re left with far more than photos and wind-beaten rosy cheeks. A reset occurs, whether we recognise it or not.
